Murder accused escapes from police bus

The Nassau Guardian: "Police are trying to figure out how an accused murderer walked off a police bus unnoticed Friday evening, despite an increase in the police presence in the Bank Lane area.
Phillip McCartney, 27, who is charged with the August murder of Chrishanda Swain, escaped through the emergency door of the yellow school bus that police use to transport prisoners after 5 p.m., according to an eyewitness. A police officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the door does not have a lock, although it is used to carry prisoners."
