A tropical storm could develop near Bermuda

Bermuda Sun "FRIDAY, AUGUST 12: A weather system with a 60 per cent chance of developing into a tropical storm could develop close to Bermuda, the US National Hurricane Center said today (Friday).

The low pressure system is currently 200 miles north of Bermuda and is expected to merge with a frontal system on Saturday, that is moving north east at around 20 to 25 miles an hour.

The NHC said today: “This system has a high chance of becoming a tropical or subtropical cyclone during the next 48 hours.”

The NHC added: “A sharp trough of low pressure located about 1,000 miles east of the northern Leeward Islands is moving west-northwestwards at near 20 miles per hour.

“Although thunderstorm activity has has become a little better organised, there are no signs of a surface circulation at this time."
