The Globe and Mail: "However, more than lives need to be rebuilt to get St. Lucia back on its feet. Like many Caribbean countries, the small island is heavily dependent on tourism and agriculture. Stephen Julien, St. Lucia’s consul-general in Canada, said the island’s only option is to bounce back.
St. Lucia is part of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States and shares a currency with eight other countries. St. Lucia has been told by the organization’s bank to get back to business as soon as possible, Mr. Julien said.
“In our case, if we were to fail, the other economies … may not be strong enough,” he said. “They would have a difficult time of maintaining the value of our currency and the future of the currency would have been severely affected.”
