By giving me AIDS, it was a death sentence

Trinidad and Tobago's Newsday "A MAN yesterday stood in the San Fernando High Court and told a judge and jury that he doesn’t deserve to die from AIDS.

Anthony Atwell, 43, sobbed as he related how, from living a life of poverty on Kings Wharf, San Fernando, he gave hope to a woman who eventually infected him with AIDS. Atwell testified that when he tested positive for HIV virus in 2003, his “mind” went blank and he killed Gail August, 30, in Point Fortin, on August 27 that year.

Atwell testified that after August infected him with AIDS, she left him and went to live with another man, Anslem Joseph, in Point Fortin, whom the jury was told, died at age 41."
