The storm, about 1,235 miles (1,988 kilometers) east of the Lesser Antilles, was moving northwest at 12 miles an hour, the hurricane center said in a statement at 11 a.m. Miami time. Sustained winds were 35 miles an hour, with higher gusts. The storm is expected to maintain its current course for the next 24 hours, forecasters said. "
