Member of Parliament (MP) for St. James South, Elizabeth Thompson, acknowledged that dog fighting was a major underground sport that many Barbadians bet on, generating substantial revenue as different breeds such as pit bulls, rottweilers, and Akitas were trained and raised for fighting across the island. Thompson said that many people attended from all levels of society, people who were expected to have more sensitivity towards animals."
