NYTimes.com: "The case of the Texas financier Robert Allen Stanford, who is accused of running an $8 billion Ponzi scheme, has been overshadowed in the United States by the frenzy over the convicted swindler Bernard L. Madoff. But in the twin-island nation of Antigua and Barbuda, the Stanford case has dominated the news and even influenced an election.

A bitter campaign season came to an end on Thursday, with the ruling United Progressive Party looking set to retain control of the country with a narrow margin, according to preliminary results released by the government on Friday."
