Finance Minister Audley Shaw, in opening the 2009/10 budget debate in the House of representatives, announced an $18-billion tax package which included a gas tax of $8.75 per litre of petrol which would see the state raking in an estimated $13.3 billion. The gas tax will take effect on Monday."
