Prison population almost doubles capacity

At the close of the September Criminal Assizes last week, Prison Superintendent Anthony Hopkins told a High Court judge that there were 280 people at the island’s lone penal facility, which was initially intended to hold an average of 150 people. At the close of the Assizes in May, the figure stood at 267."
