The scale of death and devastation caused by last week's earthquake and tsunami in Japan is a humbling reminder of man's inescapable vulnerabilities.
News yesterday was that the death toll in the Miyagi region alone could top 10,000. This newspaper suspects that the cost of the devastation in one of the world's richest countries will be almost unimaginable.
